Pottsdown, Penna:: The Americanist Press,, (1967.). Very near fine in stiff printed grey wrappers.. Limited facsimile edition. One of only 200 copies of this facsimile edition of an account originally published posthumously in 1915. The memoirs were compiled by Willis's daughter, Ellen Willis Linn, who wrote the prelude, and by Henri Bazin. who added a postscript. The Prelude begins "So much has been written of the famous men and women of New England whose lives compassed approximately the years 1800 to 1870, that little if anything remains to be told. No pretense is here made to supply such deficiency if it exists. This little book aims at naught else than a presentation of a personal point of view wherein alone lies whatever of a personal point of view wherein alone lies whatever of originality it may contain." First edition. Published in connection with an exhibition held at the Pierpont Morgan Library from September 11 to December 2, 1973. As noted on the dust jacket "It includes descriptions of the lives of the great printers, Gutenberg, De Toumes, Baskerville, Aldus, and presents the historical backgrounds against which their work was done. . . It is, in one sense, a personal selection, dependent on Mr. Blumenthal's exacting aesthetic standards and, in another, a testament to the discrimination and collections of that preeminent repository of typography - The Pierpont Morgan Library. The 112 books selected and reproduced, from the Gutenberg Bible to the twentieth-century works of… Read More

London:: Chapman and Hall, Ltd.,, 1923.. Good overall in original olive green cloth with gilt lettering on spine - foxing throughout, most of the edges of the textblock and margins of the pages. . First printing. Posthumous book publication of 14 essays, most originally published between 1901-1918 in British Weekly, which focused on Dickens's relationships with his literary contemporaries and close family members. Based in large part on letters to and from Dickens, these bring out the darker side of Dickens's personality, although Nicoll is quoted in the prefatory note as saying "There must be reticences. It is not decent or right to tell in print all you know of a man - you may easily misrepresent him by doing so." Includes two essays on Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe. Frontispiece portrait with tissue guard. Laid in is a small bookplate from The Old Curiosity Shop and a certificate that this article was purchased there. xii, 244 pp.
