Two remarkable off-the-beaten-path violin concerti, masterfully performed by the distinguished Belgian-Hungarian artist Andre Gertler with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vaclav Smetacek. CONTENTS: Milhaud: Violin Concerto No, 2 (1946; in three movements: [I] Dramatique. Recitatif - Anime, [II] Lent et sombre, [III Emporte). / Malipiero: Violin Concerto (1932; in three movements: [I] Allegro con spirito, [II] Lento ma non troppo, [III] Allegro). Liner Notes are in English, German, and French. CONDITION: An excellent Very Good to Very Good Plus LP record [not a CD!] in a beautiful Fine Minus jacket (with just a hint of ring-wear). [33CM 02673-4(a)] Igor Zhukov is one of the greatest pianists of Soviet-era Russia, and his interpretations are always highly individualistic. That is especially the case here in the Second Concerto of Johannes Brahms, in which he beautifully balances the Classical and Romantic elements, often in surprising ways, prompting the listener to remark, "Did you hear that?". Gevaert's edition of the Haydn "D Major Cello Concerto" is here an ingratiating addition to the Viola repertoire. MOVEMENTS: Allegro moderato (w/cadenza); Adagio (w/cadenza); Allegro (w/cadenza). 11+25 pages. CONDITION: A bright, solid, unmarked and uncreased score and part with light shelf-wear (the viola part's staples reinforced with near-invisible library archival tape) - now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.

These engaging (Italian-style) Concerti, long-attributed to Pergolesi, were in fact composed by a Dutch Count (1692-1766), who humbly insisted that they be published anonymously. They were subsequently included by their publisher in a 'collected edition' of Pergolesi's own music - thus the confusion and mis-attribution. To clarify, there is a percussion soloist, assisted by the participation of these wind and string players. 31 pages; duration ca. 11 minutes. An exceedingly scarce and quite remarkable composition, written by Viktor Sumarokov in 1992, as the Soviet Union was dissolving. It is scored as a single (but richly-varied) movement, with a general metronome marking of quarter = 112.( Pages 24-40 embrace powerful section for the percussion quartet.) 50+ pages. CONDITION: A solidly-bound oversize full score with moderate shelf-wear (a back-cover corner-crease/tear repaired with near-invisible library archival tape). It is unmarked but for an occasional penciled English translation of a perfomance instruction.
