Bound in purple silk cloth with tipped on illustration. Linda J. Docherty, Catalog of the Exhibition, Catalog of the Exhibition: Threatened and Endangered: Artists' Books Created by Rebecca Goodale, 2004:"Because human encroachment on nature more often takes place incrementally, the damage may be done before the consequences are clear. Goodale's Northern Blazing Star anticipates a future in which species survival depends on artificial recreation of natural patterns. This star book focuses on Maine's last grassland, the Kennebunk Plains, home to the grasshopper sparrow, upland sandpiper, black racer, and Northern blazing star. The latter, a rare plant pollinated by yellow butterflies, depends on fire to preserve the character of its habitat. Under normal conditions, lightning would kindle the necessary fire, but the…

The form of the book, its words, and its progression reveals the fading and development of a pattern. The book invites viewers to consider their experiences with the transcendent and indivisible. Four of the middle patches in four of the panels contain a poem by Hazel Hall. "Hazel Hall lived in Portland, Oregon, in the early 20th century. Much of my work deals with the idealization of memory, particularly concerning relationships. "My work can't be divorced from the aspect of time. All of my work is about memory; the influence of memories on identity, the beauty of nostalgia, and the disfunction of memory. This book is a monument to the act of remembering. San Francisco, California:: Insiya Dhatt,, 2019.. Edition of 5. 8.5 x 8.5". Accordion structure. Eight laser-cut images. Materials: Museum Board, Arches Text Wove. Inkjet printed. Signed and numbered by the artist. Insiya Dhatt: "'Illusions' examines the reality or elusiveness of basic qualities of life. By obscuring desirable qualities of life and placing them opposite optical illusions, 'Illusions' demonstrates the varying internal and external views of one's foundational needs. From a distance, the book can be viewed as visually stimulating yet closer up the picture is more nuanced. "'Illusions' is an accordion book with eight laser-cut optical illusions with a single word opposite each optical illusion. These words and images question the availability of so-called expected qualities of life. In my own life, I created the illusion of strength for my family in my home country while I struggled internally in my life in the West.

Evanston, Illinois:: Mardy Sears,, 2022.. Edition of 8. 101 cyanotypes. Wooden boards.Ethiopian binding with carved walnut covers, cyanotype prints and indigo Kozo on the spine of some signatures. Mardy Sears: "In 2020 I was asked to hand bind a Caxton Club publication, Chicago by the Book, 101 publications that shaped the city and its image, that would be put up for auction along with several other Chicago artist bindings. As I am more of an artist than a binder, I decided to make an artist book using the commercially printed book pages. The first question I asked myself in the process is 'What shapes Chicago?' and the answer I gave myself was - the people. I decided to create portraits of 101 Chicagoans to pair with the 101 publications; but how to go about this during a worldwide pandemic? I began at work while the Art Institute of Chicago was shut down and very few people were working in the museum. I wandered the empty galleries looking for those who…

Austin: Texas Writers Project, 2000. Original . Broadside. FINE. 24 x 36 inches, printed on high quality coated stock with metalic ink. Shipped- rolled in heavy tube. This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
