Description:
Oklahoma City, OK: the Committee, 1980. Handbill. 8.5x14 inch handbill, printed both sides; horizontal fold crease, some stains and foxing. On the case of a Native American woman who was in a state of mental distress after fleeing an abusive partner with her son, when they were confronted by police for a littering violation. The leaflet states that when she saw the police grabbing her son, she "exercised one of the oldest and most fundamental rights known in the Holy Circle of Life: the right of a woman to protect and defend her child." She wrestled a gun away from one of the police and shot two of them, killing one. Argues that "If the fatally wounded officer had not abused the boy, he would still be alive today." Silk-Nauni was sentenced to 150 years in prison; the leaflet concludes with a request for donations to fund an appeal.

Northport: Geo. R. B. Michie & Co., Publishers, 1899. Hardcover. viii, 912p., "in binding;" full calf boards with cloth hinges as issued, raised bands, red and black labels gilt, ruled and paneled in blind. The lower black-dyed label is faintly scuffed, there is mildest edgewear, but whereas "legal calf" is often acidic and easily turns fragile, this example is neither acidic nor fragile. In fact this volume is in splendid glowing condition (just now treated with archival-grade leather dressing) its titling bright and unflaked. CONTENTS : Master-and-servant issues (as in the killing of a section foreman by his employer's engine while decedent was attempting --as it was his duty to do-- to lift a hand car, &c &c), various kinds of accidents, street railway problems (especially "abutters," these being perhaps NIMBYs and eminent domain), injury to property --vibration; fences; injuries to children; deaths by wrongful act. EXTERNALLY, the binder chose a well-tanned hide that will last for centuries --it…

Description:
[Bromall, PA]: A.F. Brown, 1993. Paperback. 57 pages. Light blue printed wraps. Very Good. Errata slip inserted. Detailed discussion of several court cases, budget documents, and articles in which the author accuses the Barnes Foundation, its trustees, and especially its director, Richard Glanton, of financial foul play, mismanagement, and breach of public trust. The foundation oversaw the art collection of Albert C. Barnes which included works by renowned artists (Renoir, Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, among others) whose display and care were bound to its deceased owner's eccentric will. The collection was managed in large part by a local HBCU, Lincoln University, starting in the 1950s and included an educational program. Among the issues critiqued in the pamphlet are plans for a traveling art exhibition and numerous costly repairs to the foundation's properties.
