Description:
Madrid: La Voz, 1930. Hardcover. Unpaginated, a little over one hundred pages of bright glazed alkaline paperstock on which find profuse reproductions of Tovar's captioned silly-stuff, usually two to a page, plus a dozen or so pages of hommage from other cartoonists. Professional presswork in what might be a home-made binder of cloth boards measuring 11x8 inches, with backstrip in a different fabric.. (Because the spine-titling looks machine-neat, item could be as-issued from La Voz, the magazine in which these several hundred visual jokes first appeared). Edgeworn and dim, front hinge cracked, bears the wonderful bookplate of Jose Maria Catarineu (shows jester on a pile of books, well executed), the bound-in album cover a little foxed, a good all-round copy.
