Cambridge, England: [American Council of Learned Societies]; the authors, 1969. Fourteen 8x13 inch packets of mimeographed or photo reproduced typescripts, representing the papers delivered at the conference by some of the most significant scholars in the field at the time. Packets are held together with large clips, some leaving minor rust marks; some pages crinkled or partly toned. Cover sheet lists all of the papers and their authors, noting that these were drafts not for citation without the author's permission. Based on the cover sheet, this is the complete assemblage. Authors include Arthur F. Wright, Denis Twitchett, Wang Gungwu, Hans Frankel, Liu Yat-wing, Ikeda On, Tonami Mamoru, Howard Wechsler, and others. Topics include Tang Buddhism, the Guwen movement, the study of household registers and other administrative documents, and literary issues.

The gilt titling is legible though dim, item is entirely sound, clean and unmarked. No. 1 in a series prepared for the supply centre.

Zürich: Swiss National Tourist Office, 1948. Pamphlet. 56p., scattered unremarkable line drawings, softbound, a 7x4.5 inch pamphlet titled in black and red on warm tan wraps. Covers have a few short marginal tears (inconspicuous), a faint touch or two of offset soil, quite sound, otherwise clean, and entirely unmarked. FYI, little or no speculation here about the upcoming Olympics.

London: the Hakluyt Society, 1979. Pamphlet. 27p., softbound, a stapled pamphlet measuring 8.5x5.5 inches, divided precisely at the staple with a couple of printed notices laid in, everything in good clean order, near-fine. The talk concerns little-broached areas of pursuit, namely the Arabic principally but also Iranian/Persian and Ottoman Turkish. Professor Beckingham thinks that as constituted, Hakluyt is unready to tackle these promising projects. He also makes a case for map-makers to have been way behind experienced mariners in an understanding of geography and the lay of the land in general.
