Revolt at Taos

By James A. Crutchfield

This is a new hardcover with dust jacket. 2015 Westholme Publishing Jan. 19,1847, Charles Bent, newly appointed gov. of the American claimed territory of New Mexico, was safely killed at his home. The murder of 5 more happened as the rampage continued. Those responsible were New Mexican settlers of Spanish descent and Indians from nearby Taos Pueblo. During the ensuing months American civilians and soldiers, along with scores of New Mexicans and Taos Indians were killed and wounded. The murder of Bent and others and the subsequent trials and executions brought with them misunderstanding, mistrust and more on both sides of the issue. The events subjected Pres. Polk to censure over what some believed an overextension of presidential authority in claiming New Mexico a territory. Ships USPS mail with tracking. Small independent bookstore.
