Herbert Taylor thanks the recipient who is caring for his brother for his letter regarding his concerns. "I cannot sufficiently thank you for your friendly & considered attention in writing to me on the 30th Jany upon the subject of the accident which unfortunately happened to my dear Brother on the 27th....". He goes on to state "I thank God that he has escaped more serious injury.... It is most satisfying to know that he is in such good hands and that he has with him so kind and attentive a friend as yourself." Signed "H. Tayor". Very good. - A 1-1/2 inch high by 2-1/2 inch wide section of paper with the close of a letter signed by Gregor Ziemer. Above the signature the phrase "Cordially yours" is typed, with Ziemer's name typed below his signature. Very good. Gregor Ziemer (1899-1982) was an American educator and foreign correspondent who lived in Germany during the 1930s serving as headmaster of the American School in Berlin. His writing on German society of the period inspired the Edward Dmytryk film "Hitler's Children". As a correspondent he was embedded with Patton's Third Army. Later he served as a director of the American Foundation for the Blind.

Very good. - James Kitson's signature penned on a 1-1/2 inch high by 2-7/8 inch wide slip of paper mounted onto a 1-3/4 inch high by 3-1/4 inch wide piece of paper cut from an autograph album. Very good. The British liberal politician James Kitson, 1st Baron Airedale (1835-1911) was initially a member of Parliament and subsequently appointed a peer. Kitson ran Gladstone's electoral campaign and supported Irish home rule, education and old age pensions. The first Lord Mayor of Leeds, he was a member of the Institution of Civil engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, he was a supporter of the Mechanics Institute and Yorkshire College (later the University of Leeds). His home Gledhow Hall was the subject of a painting by J.M.W. Turner and William Morris designed a window for the Unitiatiran church's Mill Hill Chapel, frequented by Kitson, which he dedicated to Kitson's mother Ann.

The letter "s" in "yours" is smudged. Once folded, the corners are clipped and the edges are darkened. The autograph was likely once mounted into an album as evidenced by glue stains and paper remnants adhering to the edges of the verso. Good. The English social reformer Sir Edwin Chadwick (1800-1890) was a leader in reforming England's Poor Laws. A follower of the Utilitarian philosopher Jeremy Bentham, Chadwick instituted major reforms in urban sanitation and public health and pioneered the use of scientific surveys to identify all phases of social problems.

The British army officer and courtier Thomas Myddelton Biddulph (1809-1878) purchased commissions in various regiments of the army. Appointed Master of the Household to Queen Victoria in 1851, he was made an Extra Equerry to the Queen in 1854. Made a Knight Commander of the Civil Division of the Order of the Bath, Biddulph was knighted in 1863. He was appointed to various positions, including Keeper of the Privy Purse, Receiver-General of the Duchy of Cornwall, Private Secretary to the Sovereign, among others.

Signed "Northumberland". Folded 3 times for mailing. Fine The Northumberlands' family seat was Alnick Castle, Northumberland. Stanwick Hall in Darlington, Yorkshire was the family's secondary home. The Duke writes that he has not received an account of a meeting.Algernon George Percy, 6th Duke of Northumberland [1810-1899] was a British Conservative politician. He held office under the Earl of Derby as Paymaster-General and Vice-President of the Board of Trade in 1859. In 1867 he succeeded to the dukedom on the death of his father and entered the House of Lords. He joined the Earl of Beaconsfield's second government as Lord Privy Seal in 1878, with a seat in the cabinet, a post he held until the fall of the government in 1880.

Description:
Paris: 6 October, 1877.. 1877.. Good. - Approximately 119 words penned in black ink on a 8-1/4 inch high by 5- 1/4 inch wide sheet of bluish-gray paper. Signed "B. S Hilaire". The paper is lightly bumped with its edges slightly faded. There is a small tear to the right edge. Folded twice for mailing. Good. <p>Barthelemy-Saint- Hilaire writes in French to an English gentleman who has been referred to him by Lord Houghton. He apologizes for failing to find him at a crowded function. He explains that he had ordered the guards to make sure that the gentleman got past the door, and had also brought with him a friend who spoke very good English.
