There are some small white stains to the rear cover & the cloth is peeling away from the board along its top edge. There is a white stain to the spine & the head & tail are chipped. The top of the front joint is split. xv & [i] pages, 16- page publisher's catalog in the rear & pages [33]-520. There is foxing to the pastedowns, endpapers & catalog with scattered light foxing in the rest of the book. Ex-library with a handwritten label on the spine, a handwritten numeral on the rear endpaper & some small remnants of a library pocket on the rear pastedown. Good.

Hardcover, bound in contemporary limp vellum with raised bands titled in manuscript on the spine with the later handwritten date "1559". The covers are slightly stained and lightly bumped with slight wear to the head & tail of the spine and a chip to the rear joint. [32], 318 numbered leaves (i.e. 636 pages) & 2 leaves. Errors in foliation: 96 numbered 97, 239 numbered 229, 279 numbered 27, and 298 numbered 290. Illustrated with 2 double-page maps and 5 full-page woodcuts and with the printer's anchor & dolphin device on the title page and on the verso of the final leaf. The inner folds of the vellum are loose and there is slight split to the bottom of the front joint. There is a small piece out from the front edge of the front endpaper. Light gray boards backed with a creamy white spine, with a device in black on the front cover. The joints are split and the spine has perished and is thus lacking. The covers are rubbed and stained. xii, [ii] & 424 deckle-edged pages with wide margins. The remnants of an early bookseller's label adheres to the top corner of the front pastedown. The contents are near fine and the book would be well worth re-backing. Number 68 of a limited edition of 107 "Large Paper" copies.

The covers are rubbed and the head & tail of the spine are very slightly chipped. viii, 64 pages. There is occasional minor foxing and a piece out of one page corner, not affecting any text. Very good. First edition.The book is a commentary by Nicolaus Bachius on fragments by the Greek elegiac poet Mimnermus. It is followed by emendations to Bachius' 1825 book on Solon the poet. The Hellenistic poets regarded Mimnermus as the founder of the love elegy genre. Only fragments of his poetry survive.The poet's text is in Greek with the commentary in Latin.
