Translated from the French by Denise Folliot from the French edition titled Apollinaire le Mal-Aimé. 5-1/4" x 8", green cloth with gilt lettering on spine, dust soiling to top edge, light foxing and smudge to fore-edge, foxing and newspaper stains to end papers (laid-in clipping of Sept. 29, 1966 New York Times obituary of Apollinaire's friend André Breton conveys with this book), in unclipped, rubbed DJ with soiling at margins and 3/4" tear to back panel along spine. Notes in pencil by a former owner on rfep, pencilled margin bracket observed on one other page, else pages clean and unmarked.

Mass-market paperback, wraps soiled, soil to edges especially top, light shelf war, paperclip damage to page 42-43. Name of former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff and date Jan. 1969 written on ffep, his underscoring and notes on approximately 16 pages.

New Directions, 1981. 2nd Edition . Soft cover. Good. 197 pages, with translator's prefaces to the first (1958) and this English editions. Originally published in French, 1947. Theme and variations: one incident told in 99 different styles. Trade paperback, wear to corners, small tears at bottom of spine, wraps had separated and are reglued leaving the first signature very slightly out of alignment, incipient foxing to top edge. Note by former owner on half-title, interior pages bright and unmarked.

Édition présentée, annotée et commentée par Guillaume Peureux. Illustrated with b&w reproductions, some full-page and some cuts, of drawings from classic editions of the Fables. Wonderful, pretty little edition with tons of supporting material and ample footnotes explaining archaic terms and expressions. Small paperback (11cm x 17cm), reading crease to front wrap, light stain to fore-edge, minimal shelf wear. Handwritten index of page numbers of some of the fables, on inside back cover; text pages bright and unmarked.

English translation first issued 1983. Mass-market paperback, spot of erosion on front wrap, scant edge-wear, edges and page margins age-toned, pages unmarked.

A strip of pretty, cancelled French postage stamps from 1995, featuring illustrations of La Fontaine's Fables, laid in by former owner and conveys with this book.

Translated by Jacques LeClercq, who interpolated some explanations from Champion's Critical French edition; illustrated by Lynd Ward. 8vo, 2" thick, beige cloth with blue lettering on spine, end papers decorated with drawings - blemished patch on ffep, boards lightly soiled and shelf worn, backstrip rumpled at crown. Bookplate affixed to second front free end paper states the volume was awarded to (later Prof.) Warner Berthoff at the Hotchkiss School, 1943; that page is rumpled. Underscoring and/or marginalia in pencil observed on approximately 10 pages.
