Offered here is a striking uncut full color printer's proof sheet done for Helene Carter's book Smoky and Pinocchio published in 1940 and lithographed by WILLIAM GLASER. The image measures 20x20 and is framed. This is an uncut proof sheet containing illustrations from the book before they the sheet is folded for binding (printed by the lithographer to check color and registration). This is a particularly charming image (with red the dominant color) that shows Pinocchio's adventures with a black cat. Glaser is known for his very fine quality lithography and attention to detail and this is a wonderful example.

This was produced in honor of Sendak's visit to West Virginia in 1997. The large image measuring approximately 10 x 7" is printed on paper 11 x 10", printed by Parchment Gallery Graphics and housed in an envelope with a printed label. Also enclosed is a one page printed colophon describing the history of the print. Depicted is a Wild Thing wearing a hillbilly hat and waving a lariat surrounding the word "BOO!" This would make a wonderful addition to any Sendak collection.

Measuring 18 x 21" (creased where originally folded, blank corner cut off). There is a large (18") full color image of Peter in the center, surrounded by 4 smaller brown line vignettes from the book. The blindfolded player is to try to pin the cabbage leaf as close as possible to the outline near Peter's mouth (included are 9 cabbage leaves). Very scarce.

The Patchwork Girl and Scarecrow are shown depicting the improper way to sit at a desk and a color photo of a prim little girl shows the proper posture. In large print it reads reads: "When seated at your studies, don't hump over nor slump down / like the Patchwork Girl or the Scarecrow, but / sit erect, like the Universal Girl." There is also a 4 stanza poem about proper posture. In tiny print below the Oz characters it reads: "These quaint characters are quoted from the famous Oz Boos and were created by L. Frank Baum. Used by permission of Reilly & Lee Company, the publishers." Rare.

DISNEY, WALT. DISNEY,WALT. [MICKEY MOUSE HAPPY BIRTHDAY]. This is a fabulous early Disney Mickey poster sized piece printed on both sides. Published by Hall Brothers circa 1933. Issued as a folded birthday card, it was designed to be opened into one large sheet. When folded, it measures 4x5 inches and each unfolding brings new text referring to the enlargements of the piece: When folded it reads: "This page measures 4x5 BUT Goodness Gracious Sakes Alive" [open the card] "Although it measures 8 x 10" [open the card] You'd Have To Open It Again [open the card] "To Make It Wide Enough To Say THIS BIG, LONG WISH FOR YOU TODAY." It now measures 18" high by 22" wide and this printed side has 4 wonderful Mickey Mouse scenes. The other side is a poster image with Mickey holding a birthday cake on his head. Above him in large red letters are the words HAPPY BIRTHDAY where each letter is depicted in humanized form with arms, hats, faces etc. At either end of the phrase are illustrations of Mickey. Faint creases where folded as a card else FINE WITH ORIGINAL ENVELOPE DATED 1933! Rare.
