He established his own London Botanic Garden in the 1770's and published "Flora Londinensis" (6 volumes, 1777-1798) which was devoted to urban nature. This was not a financial success, but he went on to publish "The Botanical Magazine" in 1787, a work that featured hand colored plates by various artists, and which was very popular. Established in 1825, The Botanic Garden was written and edited by Benjamin Maund, Fellow of the Linnaean Society and was printed at his own Bromsgrove Press in Worcestershire. This delightful four-to-a-page format of delicately engraved flowers, many of which were cultivated in the Royal Gardens, are included in the collections of Victoria and Albert Museum listed as the finest botanical miniatures produced.
