Reprint of the 1878 Woolman & Rose (Philadelphia) original. Limited to 700 numbered copies, this being #121. The hand inked number "121" has bled through to adjoining pages, as usual. All other pages are clean and unmarked. Profusely illustrated with more than 70 maps and prints of New Jersey Shore towns and architectural landmarks in Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean, and Monmouth Counties. Many fold out maps. Tipped-in after the title page is a HUGE folding map, THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY 1877 from US Coast Guard Survey Records. It measures a whopping 18" wide by 31.5" tall when unfolded, and is imprinted with the populations of major cities in each NJ county from the 1875 Census. 1879 First edition. Large quarto. In the original cloth boards both detached. 6 double-page maps, 2 large folding (Atlantic City & Highland Grove, Monmouth Beach, Seabright) maps on thin paper, and the remaining 18 single-page maps in very good+ to NF condition. All are colored, none have any repairs with tape, etc... though there is very liitle needed anyway. A very nice, unsofisticated, collection of early colored NJ coastal maps at far below the cost commanded by other professional map dealers, who, not surprisingly, are located in NJ and NY. I would like to sell what is left here to a collector of NJ maps as a lot, to include the covers, instead of further breaking it up to sell individually. "Time", as they say, "will tell", if this comes to pass. Not a common reprint.

Large quarto. 372pp., with a printed slip (additional list of patrons) tipped-in at the back. Color-tinted lithographic title page, numerous color lithographic maps (several of which are folded, including the 1877 geological survey of the state of New Jersey), and numerous lithographic plates (including some double-page). Original publisher's quarter leather and decorative cloth boards stamped in blind and gold, marbled endpapers. The leather spine and edges of the boards are worn and partly abraded, overall soiling on the boards, else very good or better, internally clean with some moderate toning and light foxing at the front and back. The folded 1877 geological survey map of New Jersey is partly split (just five inches) along one fold; a few of the folded maps have some light creasing and irregular folds.
