Dark brown pebbled cloth with spine lettered and decorated in gilt, 1481 pages in double-column format. Covers worn with chipping to the extremities and joints, some cover spotting, rear hinge internally lightly cracked but secure, front hinge inexpertly reglued with the inner margins of first few pages glued a bit too tight, text block sound, pages ag-toned with occasional foxing, top half of title page detaching but secure, no names or other markings. Includes an early engraved plate of men and women surfing in Hawaii captioned Surf Swimming by Sandwich Islanders.. Hard Cover. Fair. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
