First edition hardback in original Abbey design dust jacket , not dated , small format , maroon boards with gilt titles to spine and front ,no inscriptions , no spine lean , no tears to pages , corners are lightly pushed with minor wear , spine tips are lightly pushed with minor wear , usual page toning with age and offsetting to endpapers , no foxing , in original pictoral jacket that is not spine faded , flaps not clipped , spine tips , edges and corners rubbed , minor chips to corners , toned , couple of small closed tears , a scarce crime fiction title in original jacket , not a remainder , not an ex-library copy. Square, tight and clean throughout with barely a hint of toning. Some off-setting to gutters. Some wear to spine ends, bottom edge and tips. Still solid for a notoriously fragile and cheaply made book. Very attractive unclipped, though unpriced, dust-jacket, has a chip at the heel and a nicks at the tips. A few short closed tears. Some rubbing. still fresh and bright. A very pretty copy of at a great price. (Hubin, p.411).
