A. L. HENDRIKS, Jamaican poet [1922-1992]. *This collection was the first of Walcott's poems to be issued in England. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992.

This copy is signed on the front free endpaper by Walcott and dated April 99.

Walcott went on to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992 and is best known for his Omeros (1990), an epic poem retelling the Homeric legends in a modern Caribbean setting. This poetry collection was his first major and international success. Dedicated to his mother, Alix Walcott, the book "brought together what he considered to be the best of his verse to date...
