The spine faded and worn at top and bottom and the back endpaper has a large piece roughly torn away. Pseudonym of Samuel L. Clemens. (Travel, Autobiography, Travels).

Brown cloth, stamped in gilt on front and spine, all edges sprinkled red; plain endpapers; [i]-xvi [17]-631,[1]pp; full-page and in-text wood engravings throughout. Mildly cocked, spine sunned, wear to corners, Good or better. The fourth of Twain's travel narratives, in a subscription issue that coincided with the publication of the sequel More Tramps Abroad. This issue not recorded in BAL or MCBRIDE.

First issue calls for sewn catalogue dated the month of publication which was August 1880. Other copies noted with later Sept. and October ads, inserted. The present copy features earlier JUNE adverts, which are sewn. 8vo., pps. (xxiii) + 564. With 314 illustrations by W. Fr. Brown, True Williams, B. Day and other Artists, "with also three or four pictures made by the author of this book without outside help". A presentable copy in original pictorial red cloth, showing general wear, some soiling to covers, bumped/rubbed, spine sunned, text shaken within case, some spotting.
