Binding frayed at edges but sound and entire. Scattered foxing, quite noticeable. Few worm holes in lower margin. Quite good overall. A reprint, with changes and omissions, of three separate works: (a) Henry Trumbull's "History of the disovery of America; of the landing of our forefathers...and of their most remarkable engagements with the Indians..."; (b) "A narrative of the captivity of Mrs. Johnson..." (c) "The Indian captive or A narrative of the captivity and sufferings of Zadock Steele...To which is prefixed an account of the burning of Royalton.

Original cloth 320 pp. Illustrated with four hand colored plates. Some foxing and staining, and minor wear on binding; especially at extremities; otherwise very good. Catchy title, and interesting subject, and there are even four hand colored illustrations. Also, fairly broad coverage of the subject, which begins with Columbus and goes through problems with Indians in western settlements in the 1840s. However, according to Field (Essay On Indian Bibliography) this work is full of errors. Still makes for some interesting coverage of the subject. Field 1570.

Bound in publisher's cloth (well worn at extremities, especially along the front hinge), name on the front paste down, little crinkled fold-out frontispiece by Dearborn and 4 full page plates. Unexplicably, a former reader has undelined the word "and" throughout the text (!).
