With 317 engraved illustrations after photographs by Rousselet, including a frontispiece, and six maps. Recently re-backed using the original publisher's red cloth, heavily decorated and titled in gilt and black to spine and upper. Yellow-coated endpapers. Plain bookplate of Henry Alfred Cohen to front pastedown, with neat repairs to hinges, otherwise a crisp, clean copy internally. Toning to spine, with moderate general wear to extremities. Original spine laid over the top of the new spine shows some loss to head and tail. Restored to an attractive, robust condition. An English translation of the French traveller's 'L'Inde des Rajas' (1875), being an account of his time in India between 1864 and 1868, filled with engravings based on hundreds of his own photographs. First published in English by Chapman and Hall in 1876.
