Peter and his older sister Polly, whis is 8, Howe live in the country and learn a lot (given the very easy reading level of the books by a former primary-school teacher). The children enjoy seasonal activities such as tapping maple trees in spring or skating in winter. The books are considered culturally important, but they are also fun. They would still make great easy-to-read for children in 2nd or 3rd grade. Autumn has red-inckname "Julia" on front endpaper. Sprig has penciled name inside front cover.
