Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout. Heavier tanning and foxing to other pages. Heavy thumb-marking present throughout. Hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Binding is weakened. Map to front severely compromised with half missing. Boards have heavy edge-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Major loss to head of spine. Boards heavily scratched and marked.

The London and Birmingham Railway was an early railway company in the United Kingdom, existing from 1833 to 1846, when it became part of the London and North Western Railway. The 112-mile railway line which the company opened in 1838, between London and Birmingham, was the first intercity line to be built into London." Wikipedia. 196 pages with numerous illustrations. All eighteen steel plate illustrations are present. A fine example of the hand tinted folded map is present, with no foxing, tears, chips or patches. Bound in maroon cloth with lettering on the spine in gilt. All edges in gilt. Occasional spots of foxing. Corners bumped. Bookplate on front endpaper. A very good copy.
