Still quite attractive. Issued 1884-1889. There are no illustrations present in any of these volumes, nor is there any indication that any were ever present.

The two unexpurgated translations, by the poet John Payne (1842-1916) and Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) were published "For Subscribers Only" to evade the censorship regulations. Tales from the Arabic and Alaeddin and the Enchanted Lamp are marked #198 of an unknown amount on half title page. All 13 volumes have matching vellum boards. Each has a decorative wrap around gold band and titles in gold on spine. Boards are noticeably soiled/foxed/ sunned. Some volumes have tears,chips at front gutter. Edge wear bumping. Deckle edges, top edges gilt. Endpapers and deckle edges noticeably tanned/ oxidized. Text pages are clean. Always carefully wrapped and shipped in cardboard boxes to protect your purchase.
