Roi Ottley was an African-American journalist whose writings on political and racial issues in the military and on the home front were broadcast on WMCA's "New World A-Coming" radio programs from 1944 to 1957. Robert Sengstacke Abbott (1870-1940) was born in Georgia, the son of slaves. He obtained a law degree from Kent College of Law in Chicago but was unable to practice because of his race. In 1905 he founded "The Chicago Defender," which became to most-widely circulated black newspaper in the country. Abbott became one of the first self-made black millionaires in the process. This biography is scarce and I have been unable to locate any other copy for sale.
