London: The Hakluyt Society / Bedford Press, 1901. Two volumes. Royal 8vo. [8], lxxxvi, 191; [7], 196-482 pp. Edited with Introduction and Notes by W A Tyssen-Amherst and Basil Thomsen. With photogravure frontispiece portraits in both volumes, 32 illustrated plates (one folding), three charts in Volume 1 (two in color and folding). Two loose large folding charts housed in pocket at rear of Volume II. Hakluyt Society Publications 2nd Series, No 7-8. Translated from the original Spanish manuscripts, containing six separate accounts of the journey aboard the Capitana and the Almiranta. Half bound cream vellum binding over blue cloth, spines titled in gilt, corners ruled in gilt. Fore edge and foot untrimmed. Some pages unopened, largely in Vol II. Mild soiling to vellum, light intermittent foxing and offsetting to some leaves. Moderate foxing to front and rear end sheets. One short split at fold to colored Ortelius map. A very good set. Rare. Hard Cover.
