Description:
New York: Farrar and Rinehart, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/good. Octavo, 296pp., illustrated, plus unpaginated essay "Rivers and American Folk" by series editor Constance Lindsay Skinner at rear, as issued. A good copy in the publisher's teal cloth, with foxing to the boards (though the contents are clean), and the spine faded. In a good dust jacket, age-toned along the extremities, with some chips and tears. This true first printing, with the Farrar and Rinehart imprint and the colophon on the copyright page, is considerably less common than the Literary Guild reprint.

Description:
Farrar & Rinehart, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good. 8x5x1. Hardcover and dust jacket. Tears to jacket with loss. Dust jacket in protective mylar cover. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Pages unmarked. x, 296 p., ill., 21 cm. <br> The Rivers of America was conceived by Constance Lindsay Skinner. Skinner envisioned the series: "This is to be a literary and not a historical series. The authors of these books will be novelists and poets. On them, now in America, as in all lands and times, rests the real responsibility of interpretation. If the average American is less informed about his country than any other national, knows and cares less about its past and about its present in all sections but the one where he resides, it is because books prepared for his instruction were not written by artists." The series was widely popular and was extended to 65 volumes over 37 years.
