Description:
London, 1815. First Edition. Hard Cover. (London, printed by James Moyes for John Murray and Longman & Co, 1815). First UK Edition. Two volumes, half titles present in both volumes, 24 copper engravings on 23 plates including the large folding map of "Persia and Adjacent Countries" as called for, 4to, errata leaves in both volumes, contemporary blind-stamped full brown calf, titles in gilt on green morocco spine labels, three raised bands to the spine all edges marbled, attractive book plate in volume 1. On the rear of the front free end-paper of each volume there is a discreet bookstore stamp: "Thacker & Co Ld., Bombay" from whom presumably these two volumes were originally bought. Vol 1 is a fine copy. Vol 2 is very good indeed with a short tear in the leather at the top right hand corner of the spine. The interiors of both volumes are clean and complete with minimal foxing just creeping in a few places. Brunet refers to this book as an "ouvrage importante" based on the author's three… Read More

Description:
London: Printed for John Murray, and Longman and Co, 1815. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Two volumes bound in four. Folio (approximately 36 cm x 27 cm.). Bound without half-titles. Large folding map. Bound in later buckram, with morocco spine labels. Ex-private club library with paper spine labels and bookplates (stamped "withdrawn") in each volume. The only other marking is a small stamp on the verso of the folded map. Labels quite eroded, else sound very good copies, and internally fine. Map has a small tear, very light foxing (almost completely confined to the margins), and a small repair on the verso of the map. A tall copy with very little trimming to the margins. Probably a very good candidate for rebinding.
