Educated for the law, he soon left that profession and had a distinguished career as a portrait painter. These essays, published near his death, are quite strongly opinionated! This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. An uncommon title. Dark blue cloth binding with titling on paper labels on the spine and front cover. Clean text; 95 pages, with four pages of publisher adverts in the rear. Light rubbing to tips and spine ends. The spine label has a torn edge which does not affect the text.
