Description:
London [Amsterdam]: Imprinted by the Deputies of Christopher Barker,, 1599. A handsome Puritan bible A Bible probably printed for the use of English puritans in the Low Countries in the early 17th century. The metrical psalms are included, with a separate title and register. The Geneva version, translated by William Whittingham and other Marian exiles, went through more than 70 editions between 1560 and 1640. Herbert identifies at least eight distinct editions, and notes that "the nominal date, 1599, is probably untrue in almost every case; they were apparently published at different times in Amsterdam and Dort and adopted by Barker" (p. 115). The present text (Herbert's edition B), was printed from the earliest of these editions "at a somewhat later date" (p. 116). Geneva Bibles… Read More
