This titling is so dim as to be illegible; perhaps dull bronze on medium scarlet was a poor design choice. Lacks the jacket, spine panel faintly grimy, spots of foxing to title page and several adjacent leaves because of something acidic that had been laid in at the half-title, now gone. The bulk of the item is not at all foxed. A good copy. Haimendorf undertook his travels during the end of the Second World War. Rather than taking an armed escort, Haimendorf took his wife and professional collaborator to allay the suspicions of the native peoples. This strategy succeeded and Haimendorf learned a great deal about the local culture of this region, knowledge which he recounts in this book.
