Description:
New York: Viking, 1971. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. A fine copy, bright and clean inside and out. In a near-fine dust jacket ($7.95 price intact) with a touch of rubbing to the top spine end and corners. SIGNED BY FORSYTH IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION on the blank page opposite the title page. Beneath is an unsigned inscription--dated about a month later--that reads "For my angel, in case you get bored this weekend. I love you." According to the laid-in original auction house receipt (from Houle Rare Books & Autographs), the inscription is to actor Peter Lawford from his wife, Mary Rowan. Interestingly, Lawford and Rowan were married three days after the date of the inscription, meaning Rowan almost certainly meant the reference to Lawford "being bored" as a joke.
