Provenance from the estate of the Mitchell family in Atlanta, Georgia. Stephens Mitchell (1896-1983) was the son of Eugene Muse Mitchell and Isabel "Maybelle" (Stephens) Mitchell. He was born 1896 in Atlanta. His sister was Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind. Stephens Mitchell attended the University of Georgia and was a prominent Atlanta attorney, historian, and devout Catholic. He also edited the Atlanta Historical Bulletin.
