New York, New York: Thomas Nelson and Sons, 1935. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/No Jacket. Author's second book, which she both wrote & illustrated, again set in her native North Carolina, drawing on personal childhood experiences. It portrays 2 white & 2 black siblings who get into mischief together. Though later criticized for the dialect ascribed to the African-American children, the book was praised for its attempt to document Black life in the rural South of the 1930s. A FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1935, this oblong hardcover 8vo (9" x 11") has light green cloth-covered boards lettered in bright orange to front & spine. Condition is VG+: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with very mild tanning. Modest rubbing to extremities, with slight fraying at spine tips & corners. No DJ. Former owner name to the front free endpaper. It is otherwise very clean and tight. The scarce dust jacket has many edge chips. There is a 2 1/2" tear with associated creasing. Several other far smaller tears. Original price of $1.50 to the lower, front flap. ; Oblong Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .
