Description:
Cleveland, OH: Asphodel Book Shop, 1969. First Thus. Stapled wrappers in dustjacket. First separate appearance, and an early Davenport title. Published on the occasion of poet and publisher Williams's 40th birthday, and to celebrate the publication by University of North Carolina Press of his selected poems, An Ear in Bartram's Tree. This essay serves as the introduction to that volume, and is here accompanied by a portrait drawing by Davenport, and a photographic portrait by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. Lightly rumpled and rubbed, but a nice copy nonetheless. 8vo.

Description:
The Asphodel Book Shop, 1969. First edition. Wraps. Like New/Very Good. Signed by Significant Other. A softcover edition, with dustjacket; about 12 pages. An essay on the aesthetic, character, and work of Jonathan Williams, Black Mountain College alum and the founder of the small press The Jargon Society, among other things. Scholar Guy Davenport constructs an image of Williams from rhetoric that is half prose, half academic study. This copy inscribed by Jonathan Williams, which reads: "For George and Eudice Salut from Jonathan Aspen 1969". This work was published on the occasion of the poet's 40th birthday. Eudice is Eudice Shapiro, who was a famous violinist, music teacher, and recording artist. George is her husband George Kast, who was also a violist and music teacher, among other things. Eudice was attended the Aspen, Colorado Music Festival for many years. This work is quite scarce in any condition. Signed copies rarely offered; and a unique association copy.
