1893 Memorial Edition 2 vols complete, original cloth h/b Complete and intact condition, illustrated with fold-out maps, plans & plates ( mainly sepia but a few coloured) and some in-line b&w. Top closed-edges tinted red, inscription-free but for minimal ex-library markings (incl "WITHDRAWN" stamps), a paper-clip or footprint on a prelim of each vol, gilt spine-titles and front-&-rear cover decorative figures, on black cloth that is rubbed through on corners. Unusually good ex-library condition for this age, no loosened pages, sl worn, a little light foxing or handling throughout, a gluing crack or two (but quite sound) and sl rubbing wear to covers. The 1893 Memorial Edition of " the Works" comprised 3 separate titles, this being one complete title Burton's Pilgrimage to AL-MEDINAH & MECCA

Tylston & Edwards,, 1893. 2 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispieces (one in colour), coloured or tinted plates, woodcut illustrations in the text, plans on japon (2 folding; one double-page) and large folding coloured map, half-title of first volume lightly spotted; original black cloth, upper boards blocked in gilt, gilt backs, red tops, black endpapers, neatly rebacked with old backstrips laid down, a very good, bright, clean, crisp copy. Sold from an institution with its bookplates on front paste-downs and free endpapers, and neat blind stamp on titles. 'It will thus be seen that this edition is very complete, as it has the various appendices from all the past editions. There is also a full index. As in the second edition [1857] there are thirty-four chapters instead of the original thirty-five, owing to two being made appendices, 'The Damascus Caravan' being numbered as a separate chapter' (Penzer). Near Fine, top edges a bit rubbed, initials E.P.L. bottom edges of page blocks, small stamp Edinburgh Libraries at verso of plates, small period bookplates at final page of text both volumes. All maps and plates present, Some edge wear and creasing at edges of fold-out map. Overall a quite lovely set that would grace any library. . Memorial Edition. Morocco.
