The spine and the top lower board edge are faded. Corners are lightly bumped. Light scuffing to boards. Text block edges are somewhat dusty. Previous owner's name and address written on rear free endpaper. A few pages have some light soil. Otherwise, the inside pages are clean and unmarked. Two stories by English author J.M. Spine edges and corners show some wear, other edges are good. Covers have soiling. I have cleaned them, but some remains. Front end paper has name and date in pencil: Fred Lewis June 1907. The dark blue clothbound boards are sharp at the corners and with only slight surface wear to the panels and the spine tips. The gilt titling on the spine is without wear and bright; the publishers name in gilt has some small nicks, each smaller than 1mm in length. The text blocks are gilt on the top edge and rough cut to the side and bottom, which are slightly toned due to poor paper stock. The front pastedown carries the bookseller's label of D. Mackenzie, Stockton, which is small and neat. The internals are sparsely foxed until the eighth page but mostly clean. It is free from previous owners inscriptions and is, overall, in near fine condition. Focusing on his days as a smoker, J.M.
