The binding is lightly bumped with the head & tail of the spine creased. There is light staining to the covers & a small black stain to the front cover. 85 & [3] pages. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece. There is occasional foxing, mainly to the prelims & to a few rear leaves. Very good. <p>First edition<p>Girard was from a French family in Bordeaux. He became an officer in the French mercantile marine and eventually came to Philadelphia where he founded the Girard College for Orphans.
