Calcutta: Thacker, Spink and Co., 1892 291 pages, plus 36 illustrations and folding map. 16 pages of ads are seen at the rear. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the half title page to Sir Auckland Colvin KCSI KCMG CIE (1838-1908). In addition, there is a short note tipped in addressed to "Sir Auckland" and signed by the author, dated 1892. Green cloth over beveled boards is rubbed and shows some small spaces of discoloration. Gilt and black stamped lettering on covers is a little faded, though remains clear. Hinges are cracked and a little loosened, and there is a little separation near center of text block. Book plate on front paste down and two inch mostly closed tear from upper edge of blank front free end leaf. Folding map shows a two inch closed tear entering image from bound edge. The last few leave of ads show creasing and light wear on edges. Occasional smudges, though contents are mostly very clean and otherwise intact.
