About This Item

[Tokyo]: Edition Gakken, 1976. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine in Near Fine clear dustwrappers and slipcases. Three folio (10-1/2" x 14") volumes in clear plastic dustwrappers and slipcases. Volume I: Soieries francaises du XVII et du XVIII siecle; Volume II: Soieries francaises du XIX et du XX siecle; Volume III: Tissus de l'Orient, de l'Italie et de l'Espagne. Text in French and Japanese. With numerous illustrations, many in full color. An important and comprehensive work on textiles and fabrics.

The Musée historique des tissus in Lyon was founded in 1890. It was perhaps The Great Exhibition of 1851 in London that inspired the Lyon industrialists to create a historical museum with textiles from different parts of the world. The collection contains an important section on pre-Islamic textiles.
