London: Henry S. King & Co, 1875. 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. photographic frontises (Isabel in Vol. I and Richard in Vol. II), 2 chromolithographic plates, folding map, x, 376, 340p plus [3]p. publisher's advertisements. Rebound in modern 1/2 leather (marbled green boards backed in darker green leather with matching corners). Map misfolded which has caused the outer edge to protrude slightly and be subject to soiling and wear. Mostly minor foxing. A few spots on page edges and here and there in text. INSCRIBED on the half-title in Vol. I in the author's hand ("To my old & valued friend Lady Marian Alford with the affectionate regard of the Author July 6 1875"). Isabel Burton refers to Lady Alford at page 379 in Vol. I of "The Life of Captain Sir Richd F. Burton" as "... our best and never to-be-forgotten friend..."
