Poughkeepsie, 1936. unbound. 1 page on "Vassar College / Office of the President" letterhead, 8 x 7 inches, Poughkeepsie, January 4, 1936, in part: "...It is the irony of life that my signature should be requested in an exhibition of penmanship...for as a child I spent hundreds of miserable hours trying to write a system of penmanship which was beyond my abilities. Later...I taught school and among the subjects I taught was penmanship...not allowing the class to see a specimen of my own handwriting...so ashamed was I of it!" Several folds and mounting stains on verso; otherwise very good condition.<br/> <br/> American pacifist, educator, and president of Vassar College. In 1926 he founded Sarah Lawrence College in New York with millionaire William Lawrence, serving as President until 1936.<br/> <br/>
