About This Item

Moscow: Izvestia Sovetov Narodnykh Deputatov SSSR, 1990. Large Softcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. ISSN 0131-6885. This highly regarded and rather progressive Russian-language arts journal was published near the end of the Soviet era, at a time when governmental ideological influence was still an issue for creative artists. I cannot, however, attest to the "tone" of this publication (regarding its liberal or conservative focus), but it does not seems particularly restrictive. CONTENTS: Tariq Ali and Howard Brenton's "Moscow Gold" (playscript); Zinovy Sagalov's "Three Lives of Isadora Duncan" (monodrama); Dramaturgical Facts; Spectacles; The Musical Avant-Garde - Victor Ekimovsky, Alexander Lipintsky, Andrei Soloviev; Natalia Shantir; Yuri Khanin; Mark Pekarsky (percussionist); Avant-Garde Encyclopedia (aleatoric, concrete, electronic, computer music, minimalism, free-jazz, noise); "Alternativa" Avant-Garde Festival (October 1989) review; Regina Vinitskaya; Ernst Neizvestny (sculptor); Theatre News; M. Laskina - Theatre History; Alexander Sokurov (film director); Yuri Daniel (author); and much more. 192 pages, generously illustrated, and with an 8-page set of color plates of Ernst Neizvestny's work in the middle. CONDITION: a bright, solid, square, unmarked copy with light shelf-wear and a couple small cover corner creases. This handsome copy is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.
