Born in Swansea she was a Welsh poet and author who was perhaps best known for her series of children's books in which she collected and retold fairy tales from all over the world. She married English artist George Manning-Sanders and spent much of her early married life touring Great Britain in a horse-drawn caravan and working in the circus. Eventually the family settled down into a cottage at Land's End, Cornwall. Author Walter de la Mare took at least one holiday to the Manning-Sanders residence in Cornwall.
