New York: Harper's. Good. 1885. First Edition; Second Printing. Hardcover. This is an account of General George Armstrong Custer's life on plains by his wife, Elizabeth Custer, who frequently accompanied her famous husband. After his defeat and death at Little Big Horn, she authored a handful of books in which she attempted to restore his legacy. Original brown pictorial cloth covers with gilt spine and cover lettering and gilt and black decoration. There is a portrait of Gen. Custer opposite the title page and map after page eight: "Outline Map of Portions of Montana & Dakota" (which was not present in the first printing). There is a three line previous owner name and gift inscrption in an old hand dated October 13, 1885 on the front free end paper (there is also a tiny chip to the upper corner of the front end paper). There is shelf wear to the covers and the tips are worn as are the bottom and top of the spine; the inner hinges are tender.
