About This Item
Mwythig (Shrewsbury): Thomas Durston, 1740. Hardback. Good Only. 6" by 4". None. A Welsh translation of 'A Serious Exhortation to an Holy Life' by Thomas Wadsworth, first published in 1660. In three sections, the second having a separate titlepage reading 'Pelydr a Thywyniad yr Yspryd neu Bwysi o Fyrr'. According to Jisc, it appears that p10-12 of the second section and the titlepage through to p1 of the third section are missing. Thomas Wadsworth was a seventeenth century Presbyterian minister and Rector of Newington Butts, a former village, and now part of the London Borough of Southwark. Undated; dated from copies held on Jisc. In the original paper boards. Externally, worn, with the boards held by the cords only, and the backstrip missing. Internally, loose and strained in places. The pages have intermittent spotting and ink and handling marks. All but the central gatherings have tidemarks prominent to the margins, sometimes affecting the text. There some previous repairs, notably to the titlepage, where the missing information has been added in ink as shown. The first few pages, second titlepage and final page have eighteenth-century ink annotation and signatures. Some of the names mentioned include John Griffith, Robert Johnes, Jones John Rowland and Ismael Davies. Good Only
