About This Item
London: the Company of Booksellers, 1734. 1st Edition. Very Good. Volumes 1-3 published in 1725 and volumes 4-6 published in 1734. Written by Bishop Burnet throughout his life, including stints on the continent during the Civil War and Glorious Revolution, the work is considered a solid history of the time having been changed by Burnet to be more historically oriented rather than biographical/journal. Volumes 1-3 contain English History from 1660-1689. Volumes 4-6 contain history from 1689-1713, Burnet's thoughts on the history, and a biography written by the editor. Bound in modern calf with five raised bands on the spines. Each volume has 2 red labels on the spine, one with the title and the other with the volume number and year of publication. New end papers. Text is complete, pages are toned with some spotting. A bookworm found the margins of volume IV quite delicious at some point, having eaten a good chunk, only a handful of letters barely impacted (an 'm' is missing part of the second bump, for example). Volume V has a much more modest bookworm hole in its margin, no impacts to text.
Pages: Vol I (26) 1-506; Vol II (4) 507-1058 (12); Vol III (16) 1059-1418 (88); Vol IV (18) 1-494; Vol V (14) 497-1022; Vol VI (14) 1025-1431 (79) Dimensions: 6⅜ x 4¼ x 1¼ (each volume).
