New Haven: Yale University Press, 1923. First edition. 2vols, 8vos, 358 and 430pp. Photographs by Elizabeth C. Grinnell and Mrs. J.E. Tuell. Foldout map at the rear of vol. 1, index at rear of vol. 2. Laid in is a postcard from the publication era called "Indians Gambling with their Famous Stick Game." Original red cloth, spines lettered in gilt. A near fine set with some foxing to preliminaries, toning to page block, and light wear to boards.
A thorough study on the Cheyenne tribe by Grinnell, the American anthropologist and historian.  Both volumes copiously illustrated throughout with black and white photos of the Cheyenne and sketches of maps, artifacts, etc.  Remains an important work on the subject.
