Very fine in chipped & lightly toned original glassine dust jacket.. 32mo. 3.375 x 5.25 in. 416 pp. Full black flexible cloth (imitation leather), titles in gilt, all edges red, with green ribbon-marker; in publisher's spider-web glassine dustwrapper. 'To Which Are Added Practical Reflections and a Prayer after Each Chapter together with an Appendix Containing Prayers for Mass and other Devotions.' Illustrated with three black & white plates, including frontis., viz. the Crucifixion, the Agony in the Garden, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Translated by the famous Bishop RICHARD CHALLONER. Imprimatur &c. A pristine copy in original glassine wrapper. Very scarce thus.
Synopsis
Thomas à Kempis was a medieval monk and priest (1380-1471) who served as chronicler of the monastery at Mt. St. Agnes. During his long life of scholarship, he wrote several biographies of church fathers and a number of devotional works. The Imitation of Christ , from which The Inner Life is taken, remains his most famous work.
