About This Item
St. Gallen: Roten Falken, 1951. Magazine. Twelve issues of the digest-sized German-language monthly magazine of the Swiss branch of the Red Falcons, a socialist children's organization established in 1925. Issues present are February and May 1948, March, April, May, June, July/August, and November 1949, September and December 1950, and June and July/August 1951. The April 1949 issue is rather worn with some creases and a tear at the top of the spine, the July/August 1951 issue is also rather worn; two other issues have cover stains. The May 1949 issue has a colorful May Day cover. The Red Falcons existed primarily in the German-speaking lands, though an American branch was established by the Socialist Party in the 1930s. The first issue in this group has a cover photo of Falcons from Sweden. The organization was suppressed in Germany and Austria under the Nazis. At its largest, the Swiss branch of the Red Falcons had about 3,000 members; it continues today on a much smaller scale.
