It presents in Englsih translation brief portions of a wide variety of ancient documents, with a concise introduction that gives the setting of the portion translated, with added notes that provide historical data and explanations which clarify the ancient author's meaning and show the relevance of what he says. Wraps are clean and unmarked with light wear around edges, no creases, binding is solid and square, former owner name on first page; pages are quite clean and free from any marks, no underlining, no highlighting. 276 pp with Index of References and Index of Names and Subjects. 5.25 x 8 inches. 1961, Harper & Row, New York and Evanston.
