London: George Allen & Unwin, 1948. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. FIRST PRINTING of the First UK Edition. Original blue cloth with silver lettering spine. The book is in nice condition with clean covers, slight darkening upper rear cover, a bit of rubbing very tips corners, tiny former owner address label on front pastedown otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, no foxing, tight binding. The original dust jacket is present with 2cm loss at bottom of spie, small loss at top spine, tear rear flap crease with thin loss at crease. The book measures 238mm tall x 154mm, and has 282 pages, 35 b/w photos (12 by Sella), 6 sketch maps, 13 engravings by Edward Whymper, glossary, index. Account of 22 climbing accidents in the Alps from 1820 to 1910, each described in detail. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
